Norton Preserve

(Norton Preserve in orange; Fuller Forest Preserve in blue; Lafcadio’s Woods in red.)

A discontinued Great Depression-era road bisects this Kittery Land Trust preserve (in yellow on the official map), making for a nice foray through the wooded and wetland-y land. I recommend taking the orange trail through a lovely forest, with views over the marsh, and returning via the yellow and white trails, for more wetland views. The yellow trail also connects to the 220-acre Fuller Forest Preserve.

Directions: The preserve is at the end of Norton Road, which is a dead-end road in a quiet neighborhood. Parking is very limited: it’s not allowed on the side of the road or at the preserve entrance, but rather in a small lot — big enough for two vehicles — located immediately after Oreilly Lane on the right. The Kittery Land Trust asks that visitors be respectful of people living nearby.
