Fat bikes allowed, too.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Lakes Environmental Association (LEA) uses the <a href=\"https:\/\/mainelakes.org\/home-2\/trailspreserves\/highland-research-forest\/\">420 acres here<\/a> for sustainable harvesting and long-term research projects related to woods, wildlife, soil, and water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The trail system includes old woods roads and narrower footpaths, and brings you to the edge of a wetland and down to the shores of Highland Lake. From the parking area to Highland Lake, it&#8217;s roughly 0.9 miles one way.
