{"id":17979,"date":"2018-01-29T20:13:43","date_gmt":"2018-01-29T20:13:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/?p=17979"},"modified":"2018-01-29T20:13:43","modified_gmt":"2018-01-29T20:13:43","slug":"farwell-forest-cumberland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staging.mainebyfoot.com\/index.php\/2018\/01\/29\/farwell-forest-cumberland\/","title":{"rendered":"Farwell Forest"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/u\/0\/embed?mid=1kfq0Ki6xjZ1Y52z01yWqYP5O_HO1Kag&#038;ehbc=2E312F\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The trails in this area are <a href=\"https:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/cross-town-trail-in-falmouth-and-cumberland\/\">well connected<\/a>, with some road crossings.<\/em> In my map above, <strong>Farwell Forest<\/strong> in peach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccltmaine.org\/farwell-forest\">45-acre forest<\/a> forms a mid-section between <a href=\"https:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/bruce-hill-cumberland\/\">Knight&#8217;s Pond Preserve<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/rines-forest-cumberland\/\">Rines Forest<\/a>. When I visited Farwell Forest, the trails were not blazed, but this is a popular spot for dog walkers, and the trails were easy to follow. I may have missed some.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There isn&#8217;t safe parking on Blanchard Road (the trailhead starts to the south of the house at 145 Blanchard Road). Instead park at Knight&#8217;s Pond Preserve on Greely Road Extension. The trails stretch for slightly more than 1 mile between Blanchard Road and Greely Road Extension.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the southern side of the preserve, close to Blanchard Road, the trail edges a field, where a beautiful granite bench has been set up in the corner. The interior trails tend to be wide and flat, and you might see some rusting carcasses of at least one car and old farm machinery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Directions: <\/strong>The southern trailhead starts close to 145 Blanchard Road. You&#8217;ll see a snowmobile track crossing the road here, and a gate.
