The section of trail called Clark Brook is wheelchair accessible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/?p=4771\"><strong>Presumpscot River Trail, Riverton Section \u2014<\/strong><\/a> Another river trail, pretty and surprisingly quiet, except for the sound of ducks and songbirds! The trail supposedly goes all the way to Warren Avenue.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/presumpscot-river-preserve-portland\/\"><strong>Presumpscot River Preserve \u2014<\/strong> <\/a>A beautiful walk along the river, to overlooks of falls and some great riverside rocks. All told you can get in a 4ish-5ish mile walk. Dogs allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/evergreen-cemetery-and-baxter-woods-portland\/\">Evergreen Cemetery<\/a><\/strong>\u2014 You can walk many five miles here, with your dog, through the trails behind the cemetery (and through the paved lanes of the cemetery), and across the street to Baxter Woods. Good birding, turtle spotting\u2014and occasional otter spotting!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/and Baxter Woods\">Mayor Baxter Woods<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 A 30-acre patch of woods across the avenue from Evergreen Cemetery, with wide, even trails\u2014some of which are appropriate for wheelchairs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/capisic-brook-trail-portland\/\">Capisic Pond Park and Brook Trail <\/a><\/strong>\u2014 A half-mile trail pass small meadows and a pretty brook that widens into a pond here. Wheelchair accessible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/fore-river-sanctuary-portland\/\">Fore River Sanctuary \u2014<\/a><\/strong> This is a beautiful and history-laden spot in Portland, with saltmarsh\/freshwater lowlands and a sweet waterfall, the biggest in the city. You can walk three&nbsp;miles,&nbsp;four miles?, if you do a loop and side legs. The problem is there are no good walking maps at the kiosk, although Portland Trails has put up some sign posts. Dogs allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/old-landfill-and-quarry-run-dog-park-portland\/\"><strong>Ocean Ave Recreation Area and Quarry Run Dog Park \u2014<\/strong><\/a> Walk around or over the old landfill, now a benign seeming, flower-encrusted meadow, to reach quiet wooded trails, to do a three-ish mile hike. There is no good map at the kiosk, so try to keep track of where you are. Best place to park is the dog park. Dogs allowed! And are they!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/lyseth-school-trail-to-pine-grove-park-portland\/\">Lyseth School Trail and Pine Grove Park<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 This is just a little trail, connecting the school to a scrappy park. Dogs allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/eastern-prom-and-back-cove-portland\/\">Eastern Prom and Back Cove trail <\/a><\/strong>\u2014 A really popular, really lovely long bike and running path that connects the Old Port to the Back Cove. Dogs allowed.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/canco-woods-portland\/\">Canco Woods<\/a> <\/strong>\u2014 A small, urban woods, with a bit of wetland. It has a few trails linking adjacent neighborhoods. Dogs allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/riverside-golf-course-portland\/\"><strong>Riverside<\/strong> <strong>Golf Course<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 A groomed 4.5-mile track for nordic skiing and snow shoeing in the winter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/blue-spruce-trails-westbrook\/\"><strong>Blue Spruce Trails<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 This one-mile or so trail close to the Stroudwater River is the prettiest part of the adjacent housing development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/thompsons-point-fore-river-trail-portland\/\">Thompson&#8217;s Point Fore River Trail<\/a> <\/strong>\u2014 A delightful and easy 1.2-ish mile walk that begins at Thompson&#8217;s Point and takes you to views of the Fore River. It&#8217;s wheel-accessible.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/waynflete-athletic-fields-portland\/\">Waynflete Athletic Fields<\/a> <\/strong>\u2014 When the gates are open to the private school&#8217;s 35-acre athletic complex, the public (and their dogs) are welcome to walk the 1 mile of trails on this pretty point overlooking the Fore River.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/university-park-portland\/\">University Park<\/a> <\/strong>\u2014 A skinny little wooded park near Morrill&#8217;s Corner offers a 1-mile, easy loop.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/north-deering-park-portland\/\"><strong>North Deering Park<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 In spring of 2024, the 24-acre city park had a mown playing field and about a mile of paths through woods, as well as a nice little pond with a little bench.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/riverton-rail-trail-and-forest-city-trail-portland\/\">Casco Bay H.S. and PATH Trails, and Riverton Rail Trail<\/a> <\/strong>\u2014 A lovely system of trails, about 3 miles in all, that includes accessible paths, a meadow, and a section of a former rail line.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/fore-river-parkway-trail\/\">Fore River Parkway<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 Across the street from Mercy Hospital, you can walk along the river via a flat paved sidewalk.
