There are, in total, five miles or so of wide, well-maintained and easy trails here. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/augusta-nature-education-center-augusta\/\"><strong>Augusta Nature Education Center<\/strong> <\/a>\u2014 Five miles of trails packed into a pretty compact area!&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/university-of-maine-augusta-fitness-trails-augusta\/\"><strong>University of Maine Augusta Nature Trails<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 About 3 miles of trails abut the UMA campus. They&#8217;re mostly wide, smooth, and rolling, through forest and fields.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/bond-brook-x-c-ski-trails-augusta\/\">Bond Brook ski trails <\/a><\/strong>\u2014 There&#8217;s about five miles or so of groomed track here for x-c skiing. There are also single-track trails for walking, biking, and snowshoeing that I haven&#8217;t done yet!&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/kennebec-river-rail-trail-in-gardiner-hallowell-augusta-and-farmingdale\/\">Kennebec River Rail Trail <\/a><\/strong>\u2014 A lovely paved trail along the river. Great for joggers, strollers, and wheelchairs. Easy, pretty, and surprisingly quiet in sections. More than six miles long.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/augusta-greenway-trail-augusta\/\">Augusta Greenway Trail<\/a> <\/strong>\u2014 A roughly 1-mile wheelchair-accessible (but not paved) trail along Kennebec River, across from the Kennebec Rail Trail. You&#8217;ll walk by some historical sites.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/howard-hill-augusta\/\">Howard Hill<\/a> <\/strong>\u2014 A nearly 3-mile trail system with a great view of the State House. Some steep hills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/capitol-park-augusta\/\"><strong>Capitol Park<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 Easy, wheelchair-friendly paths through an elegant park.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/togus-va-medical-center-trails-augusta\/\">Togus VA Trails<\/a> <\/strong>\u2014 There are some walking paths (some are also used by four-wheelers) around the VA Medical Center. You can pick them up at different places around the hospital campus. For the most part, they are wide and easy, with signs marking their start. My favorite is the .3-mile Beaver Dam trail, along a little brook (or old canal).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/alonzo-garcelon-wildlife-management-area-south-augusta-and-windsor\/\"><strong>Garcelon Wildlife Management Area (South)<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 The 2,000 or so acres of public land here contain streams, beaver ponds, wetlands and forests. I found the trails pleasant and easy to follow despite not being blazed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/alfond-center-for-health-augusta\/\"><strong>Alfond Center for Health trails<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 Check out the short mown trail behind the staff parking lot for bobolinks in the spring!&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/mill-park-augusta\/\">Mill Park<\/a> <\/strong>\u2014 A small riverside park with paved trails that allow you to do a narrow circumambulation of the park. Lovely views. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/sportsmans-alliance-of-maine-outdoor-education-center\/\">Sportsman&#8217;s Alliance of Maine Outdoor Education Center<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 Two miles of easy trails wend through forest and a small wetland (and cross powerlines) behind the Outdoor Center campus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-3609","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v26.6 -
