{"id":2468,"date":"2014-07-01T19:01:20","date_gmt":"2014-07-01T19:01:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/?page_id=2468"},"modified":"2014-07-01T19:01:20","modified_gmt":"2014-07-01T19:01:20","slug":"newcastle","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/staging.mainebyfoot.com\/index.php\/newcastle\/","title":{"rendered":"Newcastle"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/wp-content\/mapbox\/Corpus.html?lat=-69.537070&amp;lng=44.035107&amp;zoom=11\" width=\"500\" height=\"400\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/baker-forest-newcastle\/\">Baker Forest <\/a>\u2014 <\/strong>This is a roughly 1.5- to 2-mile walk in the woods.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/?p=2519\"><strong>Griggs Preserve<\/strong> <\/a>\u2014 A 1.5-mile, mostly wooded path that abuts a railroad track and the Sheepscot River.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/?p=2612\">Marsh River Preserve<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 An out-of-the way 1-mile trail (one way) along the wide, beautiful Marsh River.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/?p=2660\"><strong>Dodge Point Preserve<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 Over three miles of trails on this gorgeous 521-acre preserve, with beautiful places to access Damariscotta River.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/sherman-lake-preserve-newcastle\/\">Sherman Marsh \u2014<\/a> <\/strong>The path was overgrown when I hiked it, and the lake is more of a marsh, but this 95-acre preserve offers a&nbsp;pleasant 3-mile walk if you&#8217;re willing to deal with blowdowns and some bushwhacking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/?p=3890\">Marsh River Bog<\/a><\/strong> \u2014 A pleasant loop, about 1 mile, with a dwarf bog.&nbsp;If you start at the spur from Mexicali Blues, you&#8217;ll add 0.8 miles (0.4 miles one way).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/?p=3906\">Mills Overlook<\/a> <\/strong>\u2014 A short walk with views, if you can find the trail! It is a bit easy to lose it. I missed the view entirely.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/frances-perkins-center-newcastle\/\"><strong>Frances Perkins Center<\/strong> <\/a>\u2014 Learn about the extraordinary woman who gave us Social Security, a five-day workweek, and other labor rights. And walk the trails on her family estate&#8217;s 57-acre saltwater farm, with a beautiful point on the Damariscotta River.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/mainebyfoot.com\/glidden-points-great-salt-bay-heritage-trail-newcastle\/\"><strong>CLOSED: Glidden Preserve\/Salt Bay Heritage Trail\u2014<\/strong><\/a> This 3.5-mile or so trail is dog friendly, and makes its way along Great Salt Bay and the Damariscotta River. Check out the glittering Native American oyster shell middens.
